Long Odds for Miss Maine
Ever notice that contestants from New England never seem to win the Miss America pageant? Only one woman from the area has ever been crowned: Marian Bergeron of West Haven, Connecticut, who won in 1933.The Miss Maine website has a list of all the past losers from Maine, with photographs. Our current Miss Maine is Megan Beals of Ludlow, who we hope has better luck than her predecessors.

That's a travesty!! I demand an investigation! What do these judges have against Maine women, anyway.
I remember watching the pageant when I was a kid and wondering why the Maine girls never stayed on stage very long. Looking back at their photographs offers a partial explanation.
Rachel Binder managed to make it to the top 10 or top 5 in the Miss America pageant in 1997, if I remember correctly. Not too bad.
She's my husband's ex, how weird is that?
And now he's married to Miss Strange Maine (lucky guy!).
